Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The short-term, goal-oriented, skills-based treatment known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is designed to help people break free from unhelpful thought and behavior patterns. Connected Care Behavioral Health LLC uses CBT to treat almost all of our clients since it has the most research supporting the efficacy of any form of therapy. CBT is predicated on the notion that our thoughts and behaviors have an impact on how we feel; as a result, to change how we feel, we must also alter our thoughts and behaviors. CBT sessions are organized around the learning and use of new skills, in contrast to other types of therapy, to assist clients in continuing to use these abilities after treatment has concluded. Even when the acute need for therapy has passed, we want every one of our clients to have the confidence to “be their therapists.” The client can anticipate participating in various exercises with the therapist meant to bring about changes in their lives rather than discussing difficulties in an unstructured way. Many of our patients love the active nature of this style of care. Any of the exercises listed below, either separately or in combination, may be used during a typical CBT therapy session:
- recognizing the influence of one’s beliefs on one’s feelings
- evaluating the usefulness of one’s thoughts
- overcoming negative thoughts
- generating fresh, adaptable ideas
- identifying the actions that support depression, anxiety, and other negative feelings
- Role-playing novel interpersonal interactions
- carrying out exposure exercises to prepare them for anxiety
- avoiding compulsive behaviors or other actions, their fear “drives” them to participate in
- completing and evaluating each week’s homework in therapy
CBT has demonstrated effectiveness in treating:
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Generalized Anxiety
- Depression
- Social Anxiety
- School Anxiety
- Separation Anxiety
- Phobias
- Panic Attacks/Panic Disorder
- Agoraphobia
- Health Anxiety
At Connected Care Behavioral Health LLC, we cater treatment to you and your unique concerns and the activities we employ in sessions. While CBT and behavioral methods serve as the cornerstone of our therapeutic approach, we also incorporate cognitive methods and, as necessary to meet the needs of our patients, borrow strategies from related treatment models like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Each staff member has received extensive training in applying these tried-and-true, research-based techniques. Please call us at 443-219-9236 if you or someone you know could benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy.
